Sullivan County Project

Sullivan County Landfill

Carbon Harvest Energy has been selected by Sullivan County, New York to develop a large green energy and agriculture project at the County’s closed landfill in Monticello. When completed, the energy plant will generate a 1.6 MW of electricity from the landfill’s gas. Potential power purchasers include the Catskill Regional Medical Center, County offices and new development at the abandoned adjacent Apollo Mall complex along East Broadway.

Waste heat from the energy plant will be captured to heat 25 acres of nearby greenhouses for year-round produce and fish production, along with a light food processing/ distribution facility. The aquaponics system will include 250,000 gallons of recirculating aquaculture integrated with a hydroponic vegetable growing system.

A 25,000 square foot food storage and distribution facility will include light processing, and will serve as a local food growers’ hub serving the region’s small, independent farms. Located directly off of the Interstate only 85 miles from New York City, the operation will distribute produce and fish grown on site as well as products from local farmers to large buyers in the metropolitan region.
